Brian Oiler

Brian Oiler is our firearms instructor.  In 1987, Brian began his career in law enforcement by serving the citizens of the United States as a military police officer in the US Army.  In addition to being highly decorated, Brian qualified as expert in pistol, rifle, and machinegun.  Brian served with the 3rd Armored Division in Frankfurt, Germany and later with the 82nd Airborne Division where he conducted combat operations in Iraq during Desert Storm.  He left the Army as a Sergeant to pursue his career as a civilian police officer.

Brian is a 20 year veteran police officer for the City of Strongsville.  He is a highly decorated officer and has been awarded the Medal of Valor twice in his career.  He has served as a firearms and less lethal instructor for over 10 years for the department.  Additionally, Brian has served as a SWAT Operator for the regional SWAT team, Southwest Enforcement Bureau since 2002.  As well as being an asset in the field as an Operator, Brian also serves the SWAT team as the less lethal and chemical munitions instructor for the team.

Brian is certified by the State of Ohio to instruct cadets at the Police Officer Basic Academy and has instructed classes at several local police academies.  He is also certified by the State of Ohio to teach revolver, pistol, shotgun and rifle.


Mark Thevenin

Mark Thevenin is our self-defense/hand-to-hand combat instructor.

Mark currently serves as a Corporal on the Cuyahoga County Jail's Special Response Team (SRT).  He is also a Certified Defensive Tactics Instructor for the State of Ohio.  Mark has 20 years of experience and is a Training Academy Instructor for all new cadets.  He has 35 years of martial arts experience, earned a black belt in Kenpo Karate and Jujitsu, and has training in Hapkido as well as numerous other forms of martial arts.

Throughout his career, Mark has had multiple force-on-force encounters with violent offenders, which has educated him on what is practical and not practical in a self-defense situation.  Mark brings his extensive training and real world experience to our classes and provides practical responses to our students' questions.
